C-17 Globemaster III takes off from Japan | 2 years 32 weeks | A C-17 Globemaster III from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, takes off from Yokota Air Base, Japan, Oct. 5 on a mission to transport 26 members of an Air Force Humanitarian Assistance Rapid Response Team and a seven-person mobile field surgical team en route to Padang, Indonesia, to provide medical care to those affected by the recent 7.6-magnitude earthquake. A crew from Elmendorf transported the team and the equipment necessary to support the team, which is self-sustaining for up to five days.
