Sideways Snow

Gale-force winds whip snow horizontally as Iowa National Guard Humvees are used to patrol Highway 6 south and east of Iowa City, Iowa. Members of the Iowa National Guard are assisting the Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa State Patrol on Highway Assistance Teams during a massive blizzard that moved through the Midwest Feb. 1 and 2. HAT's provide emergency rescue and transportation to stranded motorists during times of excessive snow. The Iowa National Guard posted 3 Highway Assistance Teams at key Department of Transportation sites to help motorists in need. Soldiers worked are working from facilities in Coralville, Mount Pleasant and Davenport, Iowa.
