Lance Cpl. Matthew Vincent, an explosive ordinance disposal Marine with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, uses a metal detector to find a suspected improvised explosive device on a road near Now Zad, April 30. Marines use metal detectors to safely find IEDs because most have some type of metal in them. According to Vincent, the most common metal piece is the battery. No IED was found during the search, but the Marines with 1st Bn., 2nd Marines have hit seven IEDs in the area in about two weeks. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Ned Johnson)
